Questions:

1. When did you really start writing seriously? I have wanted to be a professional writer since I was nine years old.  I spent every summer starting books I never finished when I was a kid.  Mostly books about horses or Star Trek — I was a huge Trekkie when I was a kid.

2. Do you have someone that helped you in the beginning to get into the business?

My sister, actually.  She took one of the stories I wrote to a comic book convention, and gave it to a comic book publisher.  He liked my concept so much he decided to turn it into a three-book miniseries.  I started working with his editor, who taught me tons about writing.  The comic book was published in 1988.  I messed around with comics for a few years, then decided I wanted to write romance.  I applied the techniques my editor taught me in my fiction, and was soon writing for Red Sage.  From there I went to Berkely.  So my sister helped me get my start.

3. If you could recommended three things to a new author what would they be?  FINISH YOUR BOOK AND SUBMIT IT.  DO NOT GIVE UP!!!  I started so many books I never finished.  But I never gave up!

4.  What is your newest story coming out?  GUARDIAN, which will be out May 5.  It’s an erotic paranormal romance, the second in the TIME HUNTERS series.  Warrior was the first book.  It’s about sexy warriors from the future who save people in the present from futuristic killers.

5.  Do you have an agent? Yes, Roberta Brown.  She’s a fantastic agent and a good friend.

6.  I understand sometimes you teach classes on writing, do you have any coming up?  Yes, I’m teaching one now.  I usually teach at least one online class every year at Carolina Romance Writers, which is my RWA chapter.

7.  Where do you do most of your writing?  My son has moved out, and I write in his bedroom.

8.  Are you a plotter or sit down and write?   I plot my books out.  I can’t write by the seat of my pants.

9.  And finally who are your favorite authors?  JR Ward, Jim Butcher, Tanya Huff, Nora Roberts, Lois McMaster Bujold, and Charlaine Harris.
