The New Work Force!
The New Work Force
This is off topic for me, but I had to write something about it. It has me so mad and I just don’t know if anyone else is having this problem. I’ve heard many are experiencing this, so if you are, tell me what yo’re doing about it.
My husband is a certified welder and worked for a company for over 14 years but was laid off over a year ago. Come to learn said company hired temporary help at min wage and when they finish the job they let said workers go. My husband has now gone through two of these types of jobs, each company telling him it’s a long-term job and a chance to hire on. He works two to three weeks and then they let him go saying the job is finished. It’s just enough to screw up his unemployment and his pride.
Men have always been told they are the man of the house and that they need to provide for their families. Well, how are they supposed to do this when these companies are getting away with treating employees like trash? I for one don’t know how much more my husband can take. Each job he gets laid off his depression sets in and his pride takes another blow. What’s sad is my husband and I’m sure many more men are hard workers never missing work and are always on time, but does not seem to matter.
Maybe if enough people write or send something to our congress something can be done about this. Who knows? But I do know my husband is now afraid to try for another job. How do I help him? How do I get him to try again?

Trinity…
Wish you lived where I live. I work for a Welding Co who manufactures pivot bridges, trailers, etc. We have a tough time keeping guys who WANT to work. Lazy people…you’d think that they would be glad for the job, but no….
Keep your chin up and tell your husband if he wants to move…I’ll get him a job!

Hi Valerie we’ve even tried applying for jobs out of town but no one wants to take the chance of someone from out of state. Hell he’d love to move out of state if the job was secure. Thanks Trinity
I am so sorry to hear about what’s going on with your husband. While I was fortunate to have the job for 4 years, my last employer had me listed as a temporary employee to avoid having to give me health benefits. This despite the fact that I worked 40 hours a week and was with them for more than 4 years. Oh, and I was the librarian. Fortunately, my husband’s job has really good health insurance, for health insurance, that is, so I didn’t care that much about the health benefits. I also worked briefly for another place that hired people for 29 hours a week to avoid having to pay benefits. Most of the employees hired this way had to take second jobs in order to be able to live.
It really sucks with companies pull this kind of crap. Maybe Valerie can help him get a job.
Hang in there.

You certainly know I can relate to this. My hubby was laid off after 5 years at Doan Ford, but the clencher was that the waited until the day after Thanksgiving to do it. Christmas is tough at our house as it is with such a big family, but to be laid off too? Thank God for family and some amazing friends. There was 7 of us living on $199 a week unemployement. It reminded me of when my dad was laid off during the 1970s Recession. What a nightmare.
I keep praying for you, hon!
Thank you Marci and Faith, while I know it won’t help I also sent a copy of this blog to our now president. I see he has a job summit going on in Washington. Maybe someone will open their eyes, but we all know how many letters they receive.
All we can do now is cut as much as we can and go from there.

Oh, Trinity it is sinful what these employers are able to get away with. I know times are tough, but it does seem they owe something to their workers. For someone with a strong work ethic, there is no way this isn’t a hit to their pride. I’m sorry he’s going through this and pray that something permanent falls into place for him.
The problem is that the big companies are greedy. None of them care a thing about their workers which is a shame and a disgrace. Loyalty used to matter, but not anymore.
